Both Lance Cpl. Derek Jones, 21, and Lance Cpl. Jeremy Sandvick Monroe, 21, were assigned as riflemen to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, when it was in Afghanistan from May 2005 to January.

The 2nd Battalion was deployed to Iraq last month and has suffered four combat deaths.

Jones enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 2004 and reported to Kaneohe in November.

The Associated Press reported that his widow, Pamela, 20, posted a lengthy message to her husband on MySpace.com, saying in part, "you are my everything and always will be." Their daughter, Madison, is nearly 2.

Monroe's father told the Associated Press that his son was killed when a sniper attacked his vehicle.

Monte Monroe said his son enlisted in the Marine Corps right after graduating from high school in Montana.
