The 12 pirates sailed audience members to Alaska, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, telling tales brought to life with masks and costumes.
The ship was constructed so that the audience became part of the performance; chairs were part of the ship's deck, and the helm was placed right behind the first seven rows of seats.
In Alaska, children met a wise old bird ("Grandfather Raven"). In the Virgin Islands, they met a lazy cat ("Christina Cat Is Cured"). And in Puerto Rico, they met a trickster with a lucky hat ("Sombrero de Suerte"). There also was a tale about the god Maui ("Maui Maker of Miracles and Maker of Mischief").
Between stories, the pirates had the children chanting "heave ho" as they grabbed imaginary ropes to bring the ship into the dock. And while some actors changed back into pirate attire, the others led the audience in shanties, such as "Fire Down Below" and "What'll I Do With All These Pirates?"
The stories, although entertaining, couldn't compete with the pre-show activity, when children were welcomed to join the pirates for dancing and picture taking. Booty (gold coins and gem stickers) was handed out and pirate names were given. Be sure to go early and maximize your fun.
See you there, matey!
