CaneFires rally in eighth inning to beat Honu
The West Oahu CaneFires broke out for four runs in the bottom of the eighth to rally for a 6-3 win over the North Shore Honu in last night's Hawaii Winter Baseball game at Hans L'Orange Field.
CaneFires catcher Emerson Frostad went 3-for-4 and drove in the go-ahead runs in the eighth with a two-run double to right field. Brian McFall added another two-run double later in the inning.
Jarod Plummer picked up the win for West Oahu. North Shore reliever Ayumu Yamamoto took the loss.
The Honu (1-1) went ahead with a two-out, two-run rally in the third inning on Lorenzo Cain's RBI triple to the right-center gap. Cain then scored on a wild pitch.
The CaneFires (1-1) scored a single run in the fourth and tied the game in the seventh on Chris Rahl's two-out single to center to score McFall.
West Oahu then broke the tie with their rally in the eighth. Koby Clemens scored a run in the ninth for the Honu, but they would get no closer.
» At Les Murakami Stadium, the Waikiki Beach Boys improved to 2-0 with a 4-3 victory over the Honolulu Sharks (0-2).
Cole Garner led the way for the Beach Boys with a home run and three RBIs.
Gammie wins Heather Farr championship
University of Hawaii golfer Dale Gammie shot an even-par 72 yesterday and won the Heather Farr Memorial by five strokes.
Gammie finished with a three-round total of 2-under 214 in Broomfield, Colo., for her first collegiate individual title.
The Rainbow Wahine finished fourth in the event at 46-over 910, 10 shots behind tourney champion Denver.
» Marcie Rudich shot a 73 to win the overall title at the 28th annual HSWGA Senior Women's Championship on Monday at Barbers Point Golf Course.
» Drew Russ, a Seabury Hall graduate, has been named to the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference first team after finishing seventh in the NESCAC men's golf championships last weekend.
Russ, a senior at Amherst College, went 78-77--155 to finish eight strokes behind individual champion Reid Longley from Trinity College.
Seasiders go to 12-0 after sweep of Argonauts
No. 8 Brigham Young-Hawaii swept Notre Dame de Namur 30-22, 30-12, 30-20 in Division II volleyball last night in Belmont, Calif.
The Seasiders, who improved to 12-0 overall and 8-0 in the Pacific West Conference, were led by Tuli Peters with 14 kills and 16 digs. Sophomore setter LeeAnn Mapu had 36 assists and three aces.
BYUH tops Embry Riddle on first trip to mainland
Brigham Young-Hawaii beat Embry Riddle 3-1 in soccer yesterday in Prescott, Ariz.
Stephen Blake, Kamuela Kamoe and Michael Akinaka had the Seasiders' goals, and Kamoe, Akinaka and Alan Domingo all had assists.
BYUH, which is on the program's first road trip, improved to 4-2.
