'My Voice' moves
"My Voice," an exhibit of photographs by students from families in the Women in Need program, moves to the Kapolei Hale Courtyard, with an opening reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow.
The young photographers were charged with capturing images of the most important person in their lives. The exhibit opened at Aloha Tower Marketplace.
"My Voice" will be on display through Oct. 25. Exhibit hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. The reception is free and open to the public. Call 523-4674.
Do as the Romans do
Take a quick trip to Rome without all the hassle at the airport. The Honolulu Academy of Arts presents "Rome-A-Rama!" at this month's ARTafterDARK. There will be music, food, zip tours of Greek and Roman antiquities, stress-relieving spa treatments and a toga contest. Join the fun, 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the academy. Admission is $7, free for members. For information, call 532-6091.
Write to a writer
They say the art of letter-writing is dying, with corespondents relying on quick e-mails and cell phone calls rather than putting pen to paper.
Do it the old-fashioned way, though, and you could win a trip to Washington, D.C.
Students are invited to write a letter to their favorite author, with six winners to earn a trip for themselves and their parents to the nation's capital, to read their letters at the National Book Festival.
The author may come from any place in the world or any time in history. Letters should reflect how the author's work has changed the students' view of the world or themselves.
The Hawaii Center for the Book will select state winners in three levels: grades 4 through 6, grades 7 and 8, and high school. The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress then will select six finalists for the trip.
Deadline is Dec. 8. For an entry coupon, visit the Hawaii State Public Library Web site, www.libraries-hawaii.org.

SKIN Industries opens
SKIN Industries Hawaii opens its doors with a celebration starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Marketplace at Kapolei.
The locally owned store catering to fans of extreme sports and a fashionable, active lifestyle is the first of its kind on Oahu's west side. To help them celebrate, 102.7 Da Bomb radio station will be on site from noon to 2 p.m. There will also be prizes and giveaways.
Owner Paul Clayton set out to respond to the need for high-quality, affordable street apparel for area residents who don't want to drive miles to the nearest mall.
In addition to the SKIN Industries brand, labels carried include Alpine Stars, DC Shoes, Blackflys, Lowrider Clothing and more, addressing the apparel needs of motocross, ATV, skateboarding and lowrider car enthusiasts, as well those who want to look stylish every time they hit the streets.
FM fire sale
Fashionista's Market will be hosting a Fall Fire Sale at the Gentry Design Center first-floor conference room from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, with closeout deals on spring/summer duds -- with $5, $10, $15 and $20 deals -- to make room for holiday goods at the Style Sisters' next big sale in November.
The design center is at 560 N. Nimitz Highway, across from Sam Choy's Breakfast, Lunch & Crab.
Fit for the Cure at NM
Wacoal will be offering complimentary bra fittings at Neiman Marcus from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow for women who want to learn their correct size. For each fitting, Wacoal will make a $2 contribution to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for research and outreach programs.
No purchase is necessary for a donation to be made. Wacoal will provide an additional $2 donation for each Wacoal, DKNY Underwear and Donna Karan Intimates bra purchased at the event.
Research shows that eight out of 10 women are wearing the wrong size bra. Wacoal recommends that women be professionally fitted for a bra once a year to ensure their bra size has not changed as a result of body fluctuations.
To date, Wacoal has conducted almost 200,000 fittings. The company's goal is to surpass $1 million in donations through its Fit for the Cure program.
