'Lost' actor's traffic charges dismissed
The traffic case against actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje was dismissed yesterday after it was proved he had a driver's license.
The actor, who plays Mr. Eko on the ABC TV hit series "Lost," was arrested Sept. 2 in Waikiki for disobeying a police officer and driving without a license.
But in Honolulu District Court yesterday, his attorney, Scott Collins, was able to prove Akinnuoye-Agbaje had a California driver's license at the time of the arrest, said Jim Fulton, a spokesman for the city Prosecutor's Office.
The other charge was dismissed because it could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, said Fulton, adding the actor was not in court yesterday.
The London-born actor played a lead role in rapper 50 Cent's Hollywood vehicle, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," and also has appeared in "The Mummy Returns," "The Bourne Identity" and HBO TV series "Oz."
Akinnuoye-Agbaje was the third "Lost" cast member to be arrested for traffic violations. In November 2004, Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros were arrested for drunken driving. Both pleaded guilty last year.
Rodriguez, who had a previous drunken-driving conviction in Los Angeles and two speeding tickets in Honolulu, was sentenced to five days in jail and $357 in fines. She also spent a day in a California jail after her probation was revoked. Her character, Ana Lucia, was written out of the series.
Watros, who played Libby, had her license suspended for 90 days, paid a $312 fine and was ordered to undergo alcohol assessment and counseling.
Six other cast members have been cited for traffic violations, mostly for speeding, but were not arrested.
