MLB teams assign players to HWB
Five Major League Baseball players were assigned to Hawaii Winter Baseball teams, the league announced yesterday.
Pitcher Neil Jamison and left fielder Will Venable of the San Diego Padres' organization are coming to play for the West Oahu CaneFires, one of four HWB teams that start the season Oct. 1.
Josh Ford, a catcher in the Arizona Diamondbacks' system, is also coming to play for the CaneFires.
Pitcher David Quinowski of the San Francisco Giants and shortstop Thomas Manzella of the Houston Astros have been assigned to the North Shore Honu.
Hawaii-Hilo ends road trip with win over Mills
Karen Weatherby scored twice and Kelly White added a goal and two assists to lead Hawaii-Hilo to a 3-0 victory over Mills College in Division II college soccer in Oakland, Calif., yesterday.
The Vulcans (2-3) ended their three-game trip with a 2-1 mark.
