'Planet Tour' spins at Zanzabar
ONE Waikiki nightclub will feel decidedly more European this week, when
DJ Paul Sparkes arrives for a stop on the "10 Years of Silver Planet Tour."
It's all going down tomorrow at Zanzabar, with radio station Power 104.3 giving up its normal "Mini Skirts and Martinis" night to host the Holland-based, internationally-recognized waxmaster. Sparkes got his start a little more than a decade ago, spinning in various London clubs and eventually landing an A&R gig with Ministry of Sound. According to his Web site, one of his biggest accomplishments there was the discovery of DJ Sammy and the hit song "Heaven" in 2001.
Doors open at 9 p.m. tomorrow, with local DJs Billy G and IKON opening up for Sparkes. 18-and-over are welcome; call 389-3216 for more info and guest list availability ...
BIG UP to TRX-TV, the 808 Scene Zine and 808shows.com for coming up with one of the funniest names for a show this year.
"Rock Kills Old People" jumps off Thursday at Bliss Nightclub starting at 9 p.m. Cover is $5; 18-and-over welcome. The evening will feature performances by the Supersonic Space Monkeys, Pacifica, Battle Royale, the Miltons and Random Romance ...
ALSO ON Thursday, Midnight Productions Hawaii presents the "Peace One Day Concert" at Don Ho's Island Grill.
Inspired by a documentary with the same name by British filmmaker Jeremy Gilley, the concert will feature live performances by T.H.C., B.E.T., Paula Fuga, Sahra Indio and a "surprise guest." The crew from Pacific Sounds Outernational and KTUH DJs Caju, Loriel and I-Chard will also be on hand to spin between sets.
Doors open at 9:30 p.m. at Don Ho's, with a $5 cover in effect. Good vibes are also requested in order to help celebrate this annual day of global cease-fire and non-violence ...
