Gualdarama nets a winner for Lobos
DAVID Gualdarama's second goal of the season lifted the 15th-ranked New Mexico Lobos (2-2-1) to a 1-0 victory Sunday over Cal State Northridge (1-2-1).
Gualdarama (Kamehameha '04) took a pass from Zach Tierney and drove his shot home from the top of the box at 67:14.
His first goal of the season came against Michigan on Sept. 3 in a 3-0 Lobo win at East Lansing, Mich.
Markee Nobriga (Kamehameha '06), a freshman striker/midfielder, has seen action off the bench in every match for the 3-3 UNM women's team.
» Vito Higgins (Academy of the Pacific '03) is the starting goalkeeper for Gonzaga (3-2-1). He has a 1.61 goals-against average.
This past weekend he played the full 90 minutes in both matches as the Bulldogs won the Stephen Hensor/Joe Zaher Memorial Classic with a 3-0 win over Xavier and a 4-1 thumping of host Oregon State.
Daniel Scott (King Kekaulike '03), who received a medical redshirt after suffering a groin injury in 2005, has started all six matches on defense for Gonzaga.
Tye Perdido (Seabury Hall '06), a freshman midfielder, scored his first college goal against Xavier by beating the goalkeeper one-on-one at 32:41 to give GU a 2-0 advantage. Against OSU, Perdido assisted on the final goal.
» Justin Kim (Mililani '03) scored Bowling Green's first goal of the season in the Falcons' season-opening 2-1 win over Western Illinois. He hit the net from a scramble in front of the goal following a corner kick at 55:25. The sophomore midfielder then set Ahmad Smith up for the winning goal at 101:53.
» Sophomore midfielder Kelli Ganiko (King Kekaulike '05) scored the match-winning goal at 85:40 as the Pacific Boxers edged Oregon Tech 2-1 on Sept. 6. Ganiko's shot from close range came off a pass from senior striker Stacy Sueoka (Kauai '03).
Derek Atta (Aiea), a senior midfielder, and junior midfielder Ricky Shinn (Pearl City) scored goals in Pacific's season-opening 4-2 win over Northwest Christian the following day.
» April Due (Kapolei '05) scored the only goal for William Penn University (Oskaloosa, Iowa) in a 3-1 loss to Midland Lutheran on Sept. 2. A transfer from Graceland University, where she saw action as a goalkeeper in three matches as a freshman last year, Due has been a striker for the Statesmen, starting two matches.
» Congratulations to the Olympic Development Program players who made the Region IV player pools after attending summer camps.
Four boys, Keoki Haole, Zane Dydasco, Nicholas Love and Syd Tom, are in the under-16 pool while Erica Lum is in the girls pool.
Chelsey Goo, Chaney Lopez, Erin Rementer and Brittney Sanford join the girls U-15 pool. Cody Felipe is in the boys pool.
Justin Malvar and Tani Costa are in the boys and girls U-14 pools, respectively.
The U-12 boys pool includes Ryan Felipe and Nathan Fernandez. Krystal Pascua is in the girls pool.
