Padres, D-Backs, Dodgers prospects coming
The San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers are sending prospects to Hawaii Winter Baseball, which starts Oct. 1.
The Diamondbacks are sending left fielder Chris Rahl and pitcher Kyler Newby to play for the West Oahu CaneFires.
Five Dodgers -- first baseman Cory Dunlap, outfielder Xavier Paul, infielder Blake DeWitt and pitchers Wesley Wright and Zachary Hammes -- are coming to play for the North Shore Honu.
The Padres are sending second baseman Sean Kazmar and infielder/outfielder Peter Ciofrone to an HWB team to be named later.
Seattle drops Hawaii Pacific in soccer
Seattle scored four unanswered goals to beat Hawaii Pacific 4-1 in a Division II men's soccer game yesterday at Atherton Field on the HPU windward campus.
Akihide Adachi scored his third goal of the season for the Sea Warriors in the first half on a shot from the right corner.
Pat Thomas scored twice to lead the Redhawks, who improved to 5-2.
Christian Nilsson made seven saves in the first half for HPU, which won the Hawaii College Challenge Cup over the weekend and dropped to 2-2.
"It was good for us to see where we stood with one of the better teams in the region," Sea Warriors coach Frank Doyle said. "We may have been a little winded, playing our third match in four days, but our guys need to learn to do it because we'll do it again later in the season."
