Vulcans, Sea Warriors take UH-Hilo titles
The Hawaii-Hilo women and Hawaii Pacific men each won their respective events at the UH Hilo Cross Country Invitational yesterday at Hilo.
The Vulcans won the women's division with 39 points, followed by Brigham Young-Hawaii (41), HPU (61) and Chaminade (80). On the men's side, HPU (40) edged the Vulcans (41) and Seasiders (43).
BYU-Hawaii's Amanda Whittford finished the 6-kilometer course in a time of 24:55 to take the women's individual title, while HPU's Todd Iacovilli won the men's title in a time of 19:47.
Seasiders pound Vulcans for first win
Freshman Mesia Jones scored two goals as the Brigham Young-Hawaii women's soccer team routed Hawaii-Hilo yesterday, 6-1, at Laie.
In the win, the Seasiders (1-1) outshot the Vulcans 21-7.
» At Waipio, the Seasider men won just as easily yesterday, taking out Chaminade 5-0 in the opening match of the Hawaii Challenge Cup Tournament.
Junior Joshua Barney scored two goals and added an assist as the Seasiders outshot the Silverswords 29-7.
Jones to speak at Quarterback Club
University of Hawaii football head coach June Jones, actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and baseball minor leaguer Kala Kaaihue are the guest speakers at tomorrow's Honolulu Quarterback Club.
The program starts at noon following an 11:30 a.m. luncheon at the Pagoda Hotel Ballroom. The public is invited.
