4 qualify for Senior Women's Amateur
Lihue's Mary Bea Porter-King shot a 77 and was the low medalist in yesterday's Senior Women's Amateur Championship qualifier at Oahu Country Club.
Bev Kim (78), Michiko Kimura (85), and Nami Paek (87) are the other three who qualified for the Senior Amateur, Oct. 7-12, in Sea Island, Ga. The first alternate is Lily Yao, who shot 89.
Rangers to send top prospects to HWB
The Texas Rangers will send four of their top prospects, including John Mayberry Jr., the 19th overall pick in the 2005 draft, to play in Hawaii Winter Baseball, which opens up in less than a month.
Joining Mayberry on the West Oahu CaneFires is third baseman Johnny Whittleman, second baseman Jose Vallejo and catcher Emerson Frostad. Whittleman is rated the 11th-best prospect in the Rangers' farm system, and was selected in the second round of the 2005 draft.
The HWB season begins Oct. 1.
