Williams on the move again
The Oakland Athletics claimed right-hander Jerome Williams of Waipahu off waivers from the Chicago Cubs yesterday, though he wasn't scheduled to join the major league roster this season.
The A's have been interested in Williams for several years, since he broke into the majors with the San Francisco Giants at age 21 in April 2003. Williams was a first-round pick by the Giants, 39th overall, in the 1999 draft.
Brigham Young-Hawaii moves up to No. 14
Brigham Young-Hawaii moved up seven spots to No. 14 in the CSTV/AVCA Division II national rankings yesterday.
The Seasiders, who were 21st in the preseason rankings, received one first-place vote. They won four games in the Hawaiian Style Classic, with sweeps in each match.
BYUH played Hawaii Pacific late last night in Honolulu. The Sea Warriors (2-6) were ranked No. 13 in the preseason rankings, but fell out of the poll.
Rosell places fourth in world aquathlon
Kalani Rosell of Wailuku finished in fourth place in the junior division at the World Aquathlon Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland recently.
Rosell, 16, finished the cold 1,000-meter wetsuit swim and 5-kilometer run in 30 minutes, 52 seconds, which was 38 seconds out of third place.
