A minor earthquake was reported west of Big Island and 154 miles southeast of Honolulu at 5:27 p.m. yesterday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey Web site.
The tremor recorded a magnitude of 3.3, the Web site reported.
"There was a pretty small earthquake," said Vindell Hsu, a geophysicist at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. He added that there was no tsunami or danger of a tsunami from the quake.
The epicenter of the earthquake was 19.9 degrees north and 155.9 degrees west, Hsu said. It was eight miles west-southwest of Puako and 60 miles west-northwest of Hilo.
