Kamehameha's Kekoa Osorio tried to outrun Farrington's Mark Stowers in last night's game.

Warriors rule the neighborhood
For now, at least, the kings of Kalihi are Warriors.
Jordan Rego broke a scoreless duel with a fourth-quarter, 13-yard touchdown run, and Kamehameha held on for a 7-6 win over Farrington before 2,300 last night at Kunuiakea Stadium.
Tyler Akao delivered a flawless extra-point kick to provide what turned out to be the key point. The Governors took the ensuing possession and drove 80 yards in 11 plays. Elijah Filifili connected on four completions and scrambled for an 18-yard gain to set up a 16-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Lesu.
The PAT kick by Maeli Siliga, however, missed, and Kamehameha still led 7-6 with 5:21 remaining. Going for 2 points was not in Randall Okimoto's mind.
"There was a lot of time left. I wanted to put the pressure on (Kamehameha), and our defense was playing awesome," Okimoto said.
Indeed, the Governor defense got the ball back for its offense, which drove to the Kamehameha 30-yard line. On fourth and inches, however, Filifili's sneak was stopped short, allowing Kamehameha to run out the final 1:29 on the clock.
Truman Chun paced Kamehameha's offense with 72 yards on 17 attempts.
The fourth-ranked Warriors engaged in a drawn-out, old-school smashmouth slugfest with their neighbors down the road. Farrington's normally explosive passing attack didn't come to life until the final minutes of play. The Governors finished with 188 total yards.
"We're very, very fortunate to come out ahead. This was a very physical game," Warriors coach Kanani Souza said. "I'm proud of our defensive guys and staff. This is their game. My hat's off to them. Farrington has a very explosive offense."
Kamehameha is now 3-0 in nonconference games and does not play again until its Interscholastic League of Honolulu opener against Saint Louis on Sept. 15.
Sixth-ranked Farrington (2-1) opened Oahu Interscholastic Association Red East play last week with a win over Moanalua.
"We appreciate the fight our guys had all the way to the end," Okimoto said. "This group works hard and believes in themselves. When it's 7-6, it's literally a game of inches, and it goes back to all the little things like being on time, not being 5 minutes late. We can learn from this."
The game was a flurry of blitzing linebackers and tenacious battles in the trenches. Farrington's stalwart defense finished with six sacks, five in the first half. Three came from Andrew Noga.
Kamehameha, however, was off the charts with 10 sacks in all, including seven in the first half. Defensive end Taylor Hibbs tallied three sacks, all in Farrington's first four plays from scrimmage. Linemen Joshua Manupuna and Micah Waiamau each added two sacks.
Rego's scoring run capped an eight-play, 54-yard drive that was spurred by an unusual call. The Governors were whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct after a player supposedly interfered with Kamehameha quarterback Kahaku Ka'ai's cadence.
The Warriors mixed shotgun and ace-trips formations, but Rego ran off left tackle and cut upfield on a basic ace-double-tight-end set. It was a familiar formation for fans who have watched Souza's system for years.
Filifili finished 12-for-24 for 122 yards.
"I was impressed with their secondary," Okimoto said. "A lot of the sacks were coverage."
No. 1 Punahou 23, East Lake (Wash.) 16
Brett Kan passed for 211 yards and Manti Te'o rushed for two touchdowns as the top-ranked Buffanblu defeated the host Wolves in the Emerald City Classic in Washington.
With 2 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Punahou's Everett Yano intercepted a pass from Ryan Robertson, which led to Te'o's 6-yard touchdown run.
