AT&T wins $250M isle military contract
AT&T was awarded a $250 million Department of Defense contract to provide a telecommunications system for Hawaii's military, AT&T said Tuesday.
AT&T Government Solutions will provide communications and data service to the military. It is called the Joint Hawaii Information Transfer System. The contract is for six years.
The AT&T Government Solutions team in Hawaii is based in Honolulu.
The contract was awarded by a Defense Department agency that oversees the department's network system.
"At AT&T we make it our mission to ensure that our military customers are getting the most reliable, secure and cost-effective solutions available anywhere," said Don Herring, president of AT&T Government Solutions, in a news release.
AT&T currently holds a 10-year Defense Department contract to provide communications for the military in Hawaii. The contract expires early next year. More than 32,000 people and 68 military installations in Hawaii use AT&T's telephone and network services, according to a Defense Department Web site.
