Driver allegedly runs into daughter-in-law
Police say the victim was trying to take her baby out of her mother-in-law's car
Police are investigating a 57-year-old Waipahu woman who allegedly ran over her daughter-in-law with a car yesterday, critically injuring her.
Police said the woman had arrived at a Halelehua Street house to pick up her granddaughter. The daughter-in-law, 23, stepped in front of the woman's car and asked when she would bring the baby back, police said.
The daughter-in-law then opened the car door and tried to take the baby out of the car seat, police said.
The older woman then turned around to stop the younger woman, accidentally pressed on the gas and allegedly ran over her daughter-in-law, pinning her under the car, police said.
The younger woman was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in serious condition, but her condition worsened to critical in the emergency room, said Bryan Cheplic, city Emergency Services Department spokesman.
The incident occurred at 3:08 p.m., police said.
The younger woman had gotten into a domestic argument with her husband last week, police said.
The 57-year-old is being investigated for first-degree negligent injury.
