Hotel labor talks hit snag
The union representing workers at Hawaii hotels says labor contract negotiations with the Hilton Hawaiian Village hit a serious snag over the weekend.
Hilton, meanwhile, said Unite Here Local 5's economic counterproposals have been unrealistic.
But both sides say they remain committed to staying at the bargaining table. The next negotiating session is scheduled for Friday.
Disagreements remain over pension funds, health and welfare contributions and wages. Hilton says Local 5 is still seeking wage increases far beyond other contract settlements. Local 5 says Hilton "can do better."
The union says it will remain flexible, but continues full strike preparations. Members of Local 5 last week voted to authorize a strike if talks with Hilton Hawaiian Village and four Sheraton Hotels in Waikiki break down.
