» Kurt Suzuki (Baldwin, Cal State Fullerton) was 1-for-9 with two runs batted in during the five practice games the United States Baseball Olympic Qualifying Team played in Florida. The U.S. beat Puerto Rico 6-1, 16-5 and 11-0, defeated Canada 4-2, then lost to Canada 6-3. The U.S. opened pool play in Cuba yesterday against Canada.
» Benny Agbayani (Saint Louis, Hawaii Pacific) has recovered from surgery on his right knee on July 20 to repair an injured medial meniscus and returned to action with the Chiba Lotte Marines last week.
» Reid Santos (Castle, Saddleback), a left-hander, was promoted on Aug. 14 from the Kinston (N.C.) Indians in the Class A Carolina League to the Akron (Ohio) Aeros in the Class AA Eastern League.
» Kanekoa Texeira (Kamehameha, Saddleback) has been promoted from the Bristol (Va.) White Sox in the rookie Appalachian League to the Kannapolis (N.C.) Intimidators in the Class A South Atlantic League.
» Kea Kometani (Punahou, Pepperdine) won his sixth consecutive decision Thursday for the Frisco (Texas) Roughriders of the Class AA Texas League. The right-hander pitched 6 2/3 innings of five-hit, shutout ball against the Corpus Christi Hooks.
» Chad Santos (Saint Louis) was placed on the disabled list on Aug. 9 with an injury by the San Jose Giants.
