The U.S. Postal Service held a dedication ceremony yesterday in Kalihi for the Hiram L. Fong Post Office Building, Kapalama Station. The building honors the late senator who in 1959 was the first Asian American elected to the U.S. Senate. Fong died on Aug. 18, 2004, at age 97. After the ceremony, Hiram Fong Jr., right, shook hands with Bob Dods, representing U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye. Behind them were U.S. Rep. Ed Case, left, and U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka.
