Billy and Merriam Olds return for Kauai wedding reception

Billy Olds took a break from working as a civilian in Iraq to come home with wife
Merriam for a belated wedding reception for his son, Army Lt. Col.
Duke Olds and the former
Kendra Cummings of Kauai. Kendra is an HPD dispatcher. The Kauai reception was delayed a year because three days after the wedding, Duke left for Iraq. Billy and Merriam now make their home in Las Vegas. Also attending the wedding were Billy's three other children -- Dr.
Scott Olds, Janeen Stack and
Nalani Simpson -- with their families, including his eight grandkids. Billy and Merriam head back to Vegas tomorrow and he is will return to Iraq in mid-September ...
Kristian Lei and Bryson Sousa, one of Kristian's "Broadway Babies" who are performing at the Hawaii Theatre Friday and next Saturday, were surprise singers at "Taste of Kick Start" last Saturday at the Bayer Estate. Public Schools Superintendent Pat Hamamoto and Prosecutor Peter Carlisle were among the 180 guests that attended the annual benefit for the Kick Start Karate program that aids at-risk boys and girls. More music was performed by Na Wahine Ekolu and Jeff Williams' Kanikapila Band, with Wendell Kalihiwai and Hoku Keolanui. As usual, delicious food was prepared by some of Hawaii's leading chefs and restaurants. Kick Start co-founder Lee Donohue, a former police chief, said solid support for the "Taste" helped the program reach its goal of $20,000 ...

Carlos Barboza, resume their Saturday-night gig at the Elks Club Sept. 2, 6:30 to 9:30. It's a private club but Augie says nonmembers can sign in as his guests. He suggests calling 923-5722 for dinner reservations ...
