HPU announces basketball recruiting class
Hawaii Pacific coach Darren Vorderbruegge announced the signing of six new recruits for the Sea Warrior basketball team.
Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College teammates Mickey Wheeler and Logan Wolf headline the class, along with Northwestern transfer Patrick Towne. Division II transfer Kamron Alborz and freshmen Deonte Johnson and Derek Macias also signed with the Sea Warriors.
"Overall I'm pleased with the young men we have coming to HPU," Vorderbruegge said. "Combining this recruiting class with the returnees will provide an outstanding foundation for the Sea Warrior program."

High school standouts Chelsea Taylor, Kaui Todd, Caroline Martin and Dana Jensen will join transfers Malia Pires, Lindsay Balfour and Yelena Kasaynova at HPU this year.
Pires was named freshmen of the year in the California Pacific Conference last year while averaging 3.64 kills a game for Menlo College, while Todd, a Kamehameha graduate, is the lone local girl in the class.
Pearl City gets Junior League World Series win
Chace Numata hit the go-ahead RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning as Pearl City survived a five-run fifth inning by Virginia to win 8-7 yesterday in the Junior Little League World Series at Taylor, Mich.
AJ Johnson added a three-run double as part of a seven-run fourth inning for Pearl City, which continues in the tournament today against Indiana at 8 a.m.
Chaminade men's soccer team to hold tryouts
Incoming male students at Chaminade interested in playing on the school's soccer team can try out next Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at the campus soccer field from 6 to 8 a.m.
Tryouts also will be held at Kapiolani Park on Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m.
