» After Brandon League (Saint Louis) pitched four hitless innings in the Toronto Blue Jays' 8-1 win over Baltimore on Monday to earn his first save of the year, the Orioles' Kevin Millar was quoted in an Associated Press story, saying, "What can you say? We got two hits. League was throwing 98 mph sinkers and that's not fun to face for four innings."
» Kea Kometani (Punahou, Pepperdine) needed time to adjust to the Class AA Texas League after the Texas Rangers promoted the right-hander from the Class A California League the first week of June. Kometani lost his first five decisions with the Frisco, Texas, Roughriders while compiling an 8.46 earned-run average. He has won his last four decisions by allowing just 15 earned runs in 32 2/3 innings -- a 4.13 ERA -- to lower his overall ERA to 6.12.
» Kurt Suzuki (Baldwin, Cal State Fullerton) did not play last week due to an injury to his right wrist. The catcher will join Team USA this week at the Houston Astros' spring-training facility in Osceola, Fla., to prepare for the Olympic trials in Cuba, Aug. 26 to Sept. 5.
» Brian Finegan (Hawaii) is continuing the rehabilitation of the broken bones in his left foot with the trainers at the Cleveland Indians' Class AA team in Akron, Ohio. The shortstop is scheduled to be there until Sept. 1, then after a brief break back home in Fresno, Calif., he will report to instructional league at Cleveland's facility in Winter Haven, Fla., the third week of September. Finegan said the Indians hope he recovers enough to get playing time in a fall league somewhere, maybe even the Hawaii Winter League.
