Call leads to arrest of suspect in stabbing
A call from a cooperating witness led to the arrest of a Kalihi man suspected of stabbing another man to death outside a Chinatown bar more than a year ago.
Police located and arrested Memes Amuo, also known as Mesin Farata, 20, at his Kam IV Housing apartment without incident Tuesday afternoon, more than a year after the death of Samio Saingo.
He was charged with second-degree murder and is being held on $100,000 bail.
Amuo apparently had fled the state after the incident, and earlier this month contacted family here indicating he was in Oregon with relatives.
But he later returned and was arrested at his apartment.
Saingo was stabbed in the stomach outside Club Pauahi early on July 17, 2005, after three men confronted and assaulted him.
A security guard apparently tried to break up the fight, but a fourth man ran up and stabbed Saingo before they all fled in a taxi.
