'Torque 2' drifts into the stadium
SOME OF Hawaii's hottest rides will be in the same place at the same time this weekend, when "Torque 2" goes down at Aloha Stadium.
It all starts at 2 p.m. Saturday with a car and bike show, along with car-hopping and RC drifting demonstrations. An obligatory lingerie contest is planned, and there will be live entertainment by Ho'onu'a, O-Shen, Al Vegas and BE-ON Paradise.
Tickets for "Torque 2" are $15, with keiki under 11 years old admitted free. You can also save $5 on the price by picking up a pre-sale ticket at Razor Concepts Pearlridge Uptown or Revolution Motorsports ...
WITH ALL the talk about Hotel Street in Chinatown, it's easy to overlook one of the area's nightlife pioneers.
Indigo continues to pack 'em in for dinner and drinks early, with quality late-night entertainment five nights a week. Tuesdays have long been known as "Wrath of Jazz," and these days Maria Remos and Intricate Mediums provide a fusion of jazz and funk with no cover charge. Makana has moved into the Wednesday night slot, performing live with a jam band starting at 9 p.m.
Friday's "Get Fresh!" party continues to pull a crowd, especially with resident DJs Sovern-T, G-Spot, Mark Chittom and Jahson the 45 Revolver on the decks. Missing Dave will stop by tomorrow for a special guest appearance.
And on Saturdays, it's all about "Electrolyfe," with DJs Monkey, Toki, Jason Silingo and Positive Regime. If techno, trip-hop and breaks are your thing, this is the party for you ...
ALSO GOING ON downtown: "Syllabus" at Cafe Che Pasta is no more on Fridays. It's been replaced by the return of the "Black Garter Cafe," a weekly party for ladies who lead an alternative lifestyle ...
I'M HAPPY to see that Kavet the Catalyst has decided to bring back his "Trip the Lights" party. After a long break, he'll throw down tomorrow at the rRed Elephant with another do-it-yourself beat battle.
Signed up to participate so far: Ion Myke, Lael, Sentric, Nomadd, STU and SlappSymphony. The contestants will bring their own beat-making equipment, and will square off to see who the best producer is in Honolulu.
Joining Kavet will be DJs Observ and Oliver Twist, and the Nocturnal Sound Krew's DJ Solution and the 808 Breakers will also perform. Doors open at 8 p.m. tomorrow, with a $15 cover. All ages welcome ...
AND BON VOYAGE to Kasi "Rebel Girl" Nunes, who is moving to the mainland with her band X-Factor in October (see story in our Weekend tab). She's throwing a farewell party on Saturday at thirtyninehotel, with special guest DJs Primmitiv, Zita, Lady J and KK ...
