Pearl City teams remain perfect at regionals
Bully Casarez went 2-for-3 and drove in four runs to lead Pearl City to a win over Sitka (Alaska), 19-1, to complete pool play in the Little League Senior Western Regional yesterday in Salem, Ore.
Carlton Tanabe, Jeff Domingo and Jordan Dekneem each added two RBIs as Pearl City blew the game open in the fourth inning, scoring 10 runs. Nainoa Tampos picked up the win, pitching three innings of the five-inning game.
At 5-0, Pearl City claimed the first seed out of Pool B, and plays the second-place finisher in Pool A in the regional semifinals today at 4 p.m. Hawaii time.
» In the junior division, A.J. Johnson drove in five runs as Pearl City dominated Gastineau Channel of Alaska, 14-2.
Pearl City (4-0) completes pool play today at 3 p.m. Hawaii time with a game against Henderson (Nevada).
Sakamoto wins North Shore Challenge
Noa Sakamoto won for the third time in this season's four-race North Shore Swim Series, claiming the title of Saturday's Surf 'N Sea North Shore Challenge.
Sakamoto, a Punahou graduate and incoming junior at Stanford, was timed in 40 minutes and 36 seconds over the 2.4-mile course from Ehukai Beach to Waimea Bay. Dustin Fukuda was second in 41:13.
The women's title went to Lynnette Fukuda, a recent Mililani graduate, who finished in 45:34. Nicole Hagi was second in 46.00.
Lee, Reardon, Tsai to speak at QB Club
Damien athletic director Pohai Lee, Honolulu Star-Bulletin writer Dave Reardon and Honolulu Advertiser writer Stephen Tsai are the scheduled guest speakers at today's Honolulu Quarterback Club.
The program starts at noon following an 11:30 p.m. luncheon at the Pagoda Hotel Ballroom. The public is invited.
