Kauai Film Festival, focusing on health, will open Tuesday
Films and healthy snacks share the bill during the "Kauai Health Guide -- Film Festival," starting Tuesday and continuing through the 13th.
Stars, special guests, directors, musicians and speakers will gather for screenings, demonstrations and commentary during this event aiming to inspire individuals to live a full and healthy life. Highlights are:

Film Directors Forum: Meet and learn from the directors behind the festival films, 2 to 4 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort in Poipu; $25.
» Opening ceremonies: With award presentations and the premiere of "Of Wind & Waves: The Life of Woody Brown," with guests surfer Woody Brown and director David L. Brown. At Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort, Poipu, from 6 p.m. with screening at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 general ($8 in advance) and $6 for seniors, students and children ($5 advance).

Screening of "A Silent Forest" (7:30 p.m. at Small Town Coffee) and "Suzuki Speaks" (10 to 11 p.m. at Blossoming Lotus), films featuring David Suzuki, in Old Kapaa Town.

Hawaii Reef Etiquette short film, by director Ziggy Livnat, starring talking fish screens from 4 to 5 p.m. at Hanapepe's StoryBook Theater. Fish puppets and talking roosters encourage children to share voices and get to know more about our underwater ocean neighbors. Free.

Explore the realms of ethnobotany studies, shamanic traditions and herbal medicines from Tonga to Belize while learning "What the BLEEP!? -- Down the Rabbit Hole" director's cut is all about. Then join the global warming conversation and see the film everyone's talking about, with a screening of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth." From 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; screenings run $7 to $10 per film.
