Quench a thirst for low-maintenance plants
Yes, it's been hot, but even in this heat some plants don't get thirsty. We're talking low water maintenance, and you can see what kinds of plants will work for your own garden at the Halawa Xeriscape Garden Open House and Unthirsty Plant Sale, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow.
Xeriscape workshops and garden tours will be part of the fun, sponsored by the Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden. Early birds will get the mulch in the "Bag Your Own Mulch Giveaway," while supplies last. Participants will also receive a free booklet, "Hawai'i Backyard Conservation."
The garden is at 99-1268 Iwaena St. in the Halawa Valley Central Park industrial area. Park on Iwaena and Iwaiwa streets, then catch the free shuttle available from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
