Young chefs sought for Maui cook-off
Kids who cook are invited to enter a televised "Iron Chef"-style cooking competition that will pit a local champion against one from California.
The cook-off will be filmed for "Cookin' with Cutty," a made-in-Hawaii cooking series.
Host Barry "Cutty" Cutler's "2006 Keiki SuperChef Contest: Hawaii vs. California" is open to children ages 10 to 16 in Hawaii and California. They are challenged to submit audition tapes showing themselves preparing a healthy recipe -- which must include pineapple.
One finalist from each state and their parents will win a trip to Maui's Kapalua Resort for the cook-off, to be filmed at the Maui Pineapple Festival on Sept. 16.
The audition tape should include the young chef explaining why his or her recipe is healthy and delicious, where it came from, who their favorite chef is and why, and why they should be the Hawaii finalist. They'll be judged on their recipe, as well as potential television personality.
Tapes may be submitted on DVD, VHS or mini-DV format. Mail tapes to P.O. Box 390603, Kona 96739. Entries must be received by Aug. 28. For entry form and television release form, which must be submitted with the entry, visit the Web site www.cuttytv.com.
The "Cookin' with Cutty" episode will be broadcast on the America One Network, and in Hawaii on cable channel OC16.
