Visitor to Maui loses life in crash
Police say his car failed to stop and hit another vehicle
WAILUKU » Maui police continued their investigation into the death of a visitor in a traffic accident.
Mark Durham, 54, of Richardson, Texas, was pronounced dead at Maui Memorial Medical Center after the car he was driving collided with a multipurpose vehicle at 11:52 a.m. Wednesday at a Puunene intersection.
One of Durham's 12-year-old daughters, initially listed in critical condition, was taken from Maui Memorial Medical Center and flown to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children on Oahu. Another 12-year-old daughter was treated and released from Maui Memorial.
Police Lt. Jeffrey Tanoue said Durham's car was traveling makai on Pulehu Road and failed to halt at a stop sign, colliding with the multipurpose vehicle at Hansen Road.
The driver of the multipurpose vehicle was treated and released at the scene of the accident.
Durham's death is the 10th traffic fatality on Maui this year, compared with nine for the same period last year.
