Lawler-Miller fight set for Sept. 2
The much-anticipated middleweight title fight between champion "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler and No. 1 contender Jason "Mayhem" Miller has been confirmed for Sept. 2 as part of Icon Sport's 10th anniversary show at the Blaisdell Arena.
Miller (16-4), who earned a shot at the title after beating Niko Vitale nearly nine months ago, won his fourth consecutive fight last Friday night, forcing Lodune Sincaid to tap out in the first round to a rear naked choke in an event in California. Lawler (11-3) hasn't fought since knocking out Vitale in a non-title fight back in February.
Icon Sport, previously known as Super Brawl, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The 13-bout card includes a Hawaii state title fight at 170 pounds between Kimo Wolfel and Sydney Silva.
Tyson Nam, Adam Bass, and Kolo Koka are also slated to be included on the card.
Tickets, ranging from $35 to $150, are on sale at the Blaisdell Box Office.
Lack of entries cancels yacht race
Waikiki Yacht Club officials canceled today's Molokai Channel Race portion of the Waikiki Offshore Series yesterday, citing a lack of entries.
Regatta chair Steve Thomas said only one yacht had entered the race, which requires a three-boat minimum. Officials also are keeping an eye on Hurricane Daniel to see whether the storm will affect the six other races in the series, which begins Thursday and continues through Sunday.
