Slain girl’s boyfriend had TRO filed on him
The bodies of John Etrata, 24, and Ariel Aki, 15, were found in a field on Lanai
Court records show a temporary restraining order was filed against the boyfriend of a 15-year-old Lanai girl shortly before their bodies were found in a field Saturday.
The order was filed July 18 against 24-year-old John Etrata on behalf of his girlfriend Ariel Aki, a student at Lanai High and Elementary School. Three days later the couple was reported missing by family members.
Police located their bodies in a field about half a mile behind the Lanai Police Station.
According to a press release from Maui Police Department Lt. Glenn Cuomo, both victims "suffered an apparent gunshot wound or wounds." Cuomo did not release any other details about the ongoing investigation.
Maui police confirmed that they arrested Etrata on July 16 for sex assault involving Aki, based on a state law that prohibits sexual contact between a minor under 16 years of age and an adult more than five years older than the minor.
The results of that investigation also are not being released. An autopsy for both victims is scheduled for this morning at Maui Memorial Hospital.
