PLAQUE HONORS WWII INTELLIGENCE

World War II veterans held a salute as taps played yesterday during the Military Intelligence Service Veterans Club of Hawaii Memorial Plaque dedication ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl. The new plaque was unveiled to honor 6,000 Japanese Americans who served in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Service as interpreters, translators and interrogators during World War II. Pictured at the head of the plaque are MIS veterans Glenn Masunaga, Frank Takao and Richard Kosaki, who unveiled the plaque. CLICK FOR LARGE

A HAIR-RAISING TALE

Bishop Museum cultural educator Kealoha Kalekolio animatedly told the story of Maui and the sun yesterday morning at the museum, where a three-hour session of kapa-related activities and workshops marked the opening of an exhibit featuring kapa pounded by beaters from around the state.
