Pua Melia title to Hew

Mia Hew won the overall title and Tina Ramos claimed low net of the 30th Pua Melia Invitational Golf Tournament which concluded yesterday at Olomana Golf Links.

Hew carded a final round 79--157 for a 1-stroke win over Mona Kim and Ku'ulei Ka'ae. Ramos won a playoff with Joan Machado after the two tied at 137 for low net.

Movers win 2 in Japan

Chandler Tidwell struck out four in a complete-game outing, and Chad Itokazu went 4-for-5 to lead the Hawaii Island Movers to a 5-2 baseball victory over Osaka Gakuin University of Japan in Senriyama Stadium yesterday.

It was the second victory over OGU in as many days for the Movers, who also defeated the Japanese team 10-4 on Thursday. The Movers rallied to win the game by scoring seven runs in the final two innings, including five in the ninth.

Contessa, Lightning expected to finish first

The Contessa, a double-handed sloop out of California, and Lightning, a Santa Cruz 52 from Washington, were contending for first-to-finish honors today in Kaneohe Bay in the 14th Biennial West Marine Pacific Cup.

The Contessa was expected to arrive sometime late this morning while Lightning could arrive sometime this evening.

The 2,040-mile transpacific race began July 3 out of Richmond (Calif.) Yacht Club with 42 entries.

Air riflery title to Punahou team

Simone Riford took gold in the kneeling division to help lead the Punahou School Gold Air Rifle squad to the team title at last week's Daisy International Air Gun championship held at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky.

Riford also earned a bronze in the prone division of the the three-position event. Heather Horn earned two bronzes, in standing and kneeling, while Rachel Tochiki took silver in the kneeling division.

Punahou pair advances to championship

Seeking their third title of the season, Punahou products Mike Lambert and Stein Metzger advanced to today's championship bracket semifinal of the AVP Hoover (Ala.) Open, the ninth stop of the AVP Crocs Tour.

The top-seeded Lambert and Metzger, who took home their second title of the season in Atlanta last weekend, defeated No. 32 seeds Andrey Tranchina and Derek Zimmerman 21-14, 21-14 and No. 16 seeds Dain Blanton and Matt Prosser 21-13, 22-24, 15-11 to advance. They meet No. 8 seeds Brent Doble and Ryan Mariano today.
