3 local stocks rise
Hoku Scientific Inc.
topped the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin stock index this week, one of only three stocks to post gains.
The maker of fuel-cell technology closed at $3.15, up 2.3 percent for the week. But the company, which in May announced it also plans to branch out into solar-panel manufacturing, remains far below its peak of $12.80, and is down more than 58 percent year to date.
Also posting gains for the week, albeit only of about 1 percent, were Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc. and Barnwell Industries Inc.
The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
