Wie, Sorenstam top match-play list

Annika Sorenstam and Michelle Wie topped the automatic qualifiers yesterday for the HSBC Women's World Match Play Championship.

The top-ranked Sorenstam, No. 2 Wie and the rest of the top 30 players in the world rankings earned the first spots in the 64-player field next week at Hamilton Farm.

After the 30 players from the world rankings were set, 29 players were added from the LPGA Tour money list.

Ashworth to be Kaanapali's director of golf

Scott Ashworth will become the PGA Director of Golf at Kaanapali Golf Courses on Maui, starting Saturday.

Ashworth worked the last three years as Kaanapali's PGA head golf professional, and in 2005, he was head golf pro of the year.

In addition to golf operations supervision, Ashworth's duties will expand to merchandising, sales and marketing, budgeting and agronomics.

Bulls go down in U.S. youth soccer regionals

The ISC Strikers of California beat Hawaii's HSC Bulls 92 2-1 on Sunday in the U.S. Youth Soccer Region IV Championships.

The Strikers scored in the 12th and 71st minutes of the under-14 girls division. Courtney Rae Botelho scored the Bulls' only goal in the 45th minute.
