Friday
"Maka CD Release Party," 9 p.m. at Bliss. Cover: $5.
Local roots reggae artist Maka (below), celebrates the release of his solo debut album, "I-Sight," with a show at Bliss this weekend.
After finishing an extended run on Wednesdays at a Kailua bar, the Rastafarian has since moved on to performing around Oahu in support of his new album, which hit record stores last month.
Saturday
"Lucky Tiger," 9 p.m. at thirtyninehotel. Call 599-2552.
Expose yourself to a new sound this weekend, thanks to thirtyninehotel's Gelareh Khoie and DJ Phil Mison.
"(Mison) is completely unknown in Hawaii," Khoie said in a press release. "I'm proud to have him because he represents our dedication to bringing out people whose talent and music we believe in, regardless of their fame or lack thereof."
Mison, who once worked as a milkman, has gone on to make a name for himself as one of the UK's leading "chill" DJs. He's spent time as a resident at Cafe Del Mar in Ibiza, and spends his time these days spinning at venues around the world.
