Even just watching a game can be exhausting
TODAY, all the players who played more than 45 minutes got the day off.
It was well-deserved and much-needed after the performance they put in. The rest of us went for a 4.7-mile run around the lake here in Hamburg. This was made more difficult by the fact that last night was emotionally exhausting for everyone who watched the game.
It's funny how just watching a game can take a lot out of you. What also made this run more difficult was the fact that we didn't get back into Hamburg until 4 a.m. after our chartered flight.
However, the run was much needed for those of us who didn't play to keep our fitness level up. I did the run in a little more than 30 minutes and felt much better after it was all said and done.
I really feel bad for the families though. They didn't get back into Hamburg until 5 a.m. There were a few people who got lost after the game and their bus didn't leave the stadium until we were taking off from the Ramstein Base. They were scheduled to leave before us. This was really frustrating for those people who had to leave on early flights this morning, my wife being one of them. She didn't get any sleep before turning around on what turned out to be a 20-hour travel day.
As for most of the guys, you can say it was a lazy day. Most of the fathers on the team spent time with their families going out to dinner or hanging out at cafés. Most of us also spent some time in the spa or resting in our hotel rooms.
Well I hope everyone had a Happy Father's Day. Aloha.
