Isle-based cutter visits China
The Honolulu-based Coast Guard Cutter Rush is making a port call at Qingdao, China, the first major cutter to visit China since World War II.
The visit is part of a professional law enforcement exchange with the Chinese coast guard. Law enforcement teams from each country were to discuss and demonstrate techniques for boarding and searching suspect vessels. Qingdao is located on the Shandong Peninsula off the Yellow Sea.

Injured hiker airlifted from Maunawili
Rescue crews airlifted a hiker who sustained head, leg and rib injuries from the Maunawili Falls trail yesterday afternoon.
The Honolulu Fire Department was notified around 2 p.m. by one of the hiker's friends and completed the rescue by 3:30 p.m.
Paramedics took the 23-year-old man to the Queen's Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Military to assist in identifying body
A military anthropologist will help Big Island police identify a decomposing body discovered Thursday morning in a locked makeshift structure in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision, police said in a news release.
Puna police arrived at the property on 24th Avenue shortly before 11 a.m. and took the human remains to Hilo Medical Center, where a forensic pathologist found no immediate evidence of foul play but was unable to determine the identity, gender, cause of death and time of death due to the advanced state of decomposition.

Couple allegedly robs store, sprays security
Police arrested a couple late Friday night for allegedly robbing the Iwilei Kmart and spraying an unknown substance at a store loss prevention officer.
Police said while the officer was questioning the 26-year-old woman, her 29-year-old boyfriend approached the group, sprayed an unknown substance at the officer and then fled the scene with his girlfriend.
While on routine patrol, police spotted the couple around 11 p.m. Friday night and arrested them on charges of 2nd degree robbery.
Brush fire shuts down Kalanianaole Highway
A brush fire across from the entrance to Hawaii Kai Golf Course closed Kalanianaole Highway for almost an hour early yesterday morning.
The Honolulu Fire Department received the call around 1:23 a.m. and put out the blaze at 8902 Kalanianaole Highway by 2:13 a.m.
A spokesperson for the HFD said no one was injured. The cause of the fire is unknown.
