Ayumi Komine got final adjustments to her costume from Yoichiro Sunagawa during yesterday's annual Pan-Pacific Hoolaulea block party on Kalakaua Avenue. The two are part of Meio-Eisa University in Okinawa and were preparing to dance. The Pan- Pacific -- Matsuri in Hawaii event continues this weekend, ending with a 5 p.m. parade tomorrow through Waikiki.

Miss Island Ilima Pilialoha Gaison, 22, was crowned Miss Hawaii 2006 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom last night. She is a junior in business management at Hawaii Pacific University. The winner of the Miss Hawaii pageant goes on to compete in the Miss America pageant. A Kamehameha Schools graduate, Gaison is also a professional dancer with Tihati Productions. She is a daughter of Donnalei and Blane Gaison, a former University of Hawaii and professional football player.

The latest products and services for people with disabilities were presented yesterday at the Tools for Life 2006 Expo at the Hawai'i Convention Center. Mei Chun, who is not disabled, tried navigating an obstacle course that does not comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act regulations in a wheelchair. Monitoring her progress was Leann Uehira, who is with Easter Seals. The expo continues today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
