Weekend events shut Kalakaua Avenue
Kalakaua Avenue will be closed three times this King Kamehameha Day weekend.
The first closure is today from 8:30 to 11 a.m. for the 90th Annual King Kamehameha Day Floral Parade.
More than 5,000 marchers will participate in the parade, which starts at 9:30 a.m. The parade begins on King Street and will end at Queen Kapiolani Park by noon.
One lane on Kalakaua Avenue will be closed tomorrow from 4:30 to 8 a.m. for the 1,200 runners in the Hawaiian Half Marathon.
The marathon, part of the Pan-Pacific Matsuri in Hawaii Festival, will start near the Waikiki Yacht Club and end at the Honolulu Marathon finish line at Queen Kapiolani Park.
The last Kalakaua Avenue closure, from Saratoga Road to Kapahulu Avenue, will be tomorrow from 4:30 to 7 p.m. for the Pan-Pacific Matsuri in Hawaii Parade.
The parade and its 2,000 marchers will go through Fort DeRussy and finish at Queen Kapiolani Park.
Motorists are advised to take Kuhio Avenue and allow for extra travel time.
