A couple drawn by the cash in a man's wallet were caught on security cameras robbing him, and police are asking for the public's help in identifying them.

The robbery took place at the 7-Eleven at 1900 Dillingham Blvd., across the street from the Oahu Community Correctional Center about 3 a.m. April 14. Police said the robbery appears to be a crime of opportunity, with the victim in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"He pulls out his wallet and they see the cash," said Sgt. Kim Capllonch, CrimeStoppers coordinator. "He had enough money that they wanted his wallet badly."

The security video shows the victim paying for some items at the cash register, and a female suspect approaching him and starting a conversation with him. She then allegedly followed him to the gas pumps outside and began assaulting him and trying to steal his wallet.

At that point, Capllonch said a second suspect, a man, joined in, punching the victim and also trying to take the wallet. The victim ran back to the store while the suspects searched his vehicle and took some of his things.

Afterward, the woman tried to go back into the store to confront the victim but was stopped by a female witness who apparently knew the suspects but was not involved in the robbery, police said. All three fled in a Nissan Quest van.

Capllonch said the victim did not suffer any serious injuries. She advises everyone to be aware of their surroundings and carry a limited amount of cash, especially late at night until early morning.

"Don't be flashing your wallet," she said. "Take a $20 and don't pull out a lot of cash at 3 in the morning."

The female suspect is described as in her 20s, about 5 foot 6 inches tall, 160 pounds, with brown eyes, a dark complexion and multiple facial piercings. She was last seen wearing a dark-blue sweatshirt, light-blue shorts, baseball cap and slippers.

The male suspect is described as in his 30s, about 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, with short, wavy blond hair and a fair complexion. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue denim shorts and white tennis shoes.

The female witness is described as in her 20s, about 5 foot 8, 135 pounds, with a medium complexion. She was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, blue denim pants and slippers, with brown hair up in a bun.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or by dialing *CRIME on a cellular phone.
