Another 'In the Mix' starts tonight
AS THE saying goes -- "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."
I've noticed a few instances of that happening over the past few years in other local publications, but a new weekly hosted by Simply Ravishing Enterprises and Stand Alone Intertainment is too funny not to mention here.
No, I don't have anything to do with "In the Mix," which starts tonight at the O Lounge. And I'm guessing the party's promoters don't read this column.
At least they made the right decision by inviting the lovely Lyz Cruz and Jenn R. to work as go-go dancers at the club, while DJ Galiss provides the music. Doors open at 10 p.m. for the 21-and-over crowd.
Maybe I should stop by tonight to see if these guys are living up to the "In the Mix" name ...
LOOKING FOR something to do tomorrow after First Friday wraps up in Chinatown?
I've already told you about the new hip-hop weekly at Che Pasta with the crew from Skumfux Clothing. But don't forget about the monthly "Subphonix" party at Mercury.
Along with resident DJs Antikkz, Empyr, Meilo, Synrgy and MC Enemy, this month's special guests are Los Angeles-based DJ Nightstalker and MC XYZ.
Drum-n-bass fans won't want to miss this one; $10 gets you into the 21-and-over party that starts at 10 p.m. ...
THERE'S LOTS to do on Saturday: House fans were worried that DJs Charles Feelgood and Mark Grant would have to cancel their gig out here after the Wave Waikiki shut down last month. The good news? They've found a new venue elsewhere in Waikiki, at Cirque Hawaii ... Island 98.5's Big Teeze hosts "The Infamous Summer Jam" at Pipeline Cafe, with live performances by B.E.T., Kawao and Sashamon and DJ Twiks on the decks. Doors open at 10 p.m. ... Fans of all four elements of hip-hop should get to Scion Hawaii, where "Movement" will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. Admission is free, and the event features a $1,000 MC battle and $500 DJ battle, along with a B-Boy battle between the 808 Breakers and Failures of Society and a graff contest. Big Mox and Pandamonium will host, with DJs Flip, Nomadd and Sir Style on the decks ... Saturdays at Spada are now known as "Chocolat," with 102.7 Da Bomb's DJ Kool-E remaining as the featured mixer ... And you can't forget about the two-year anniversary edition of "SKYLiNE" at the Hanohano Room. Not only will there be a line in the Sheraton Waikiki lobby earlier than usual, but those entering will be scrutinized to make sure they're following the all-white dress code. Oh, and I hear there are a couple of iPod Nanos to be given away ...
