Kauai's Irons places third at Fiji surf meet
Kauai's Andy Irons finished third yesterday at the Globe WCT surfing contest at Tavarua, Fiji.
Irons, the only Hawaii surfer to advance past the third round, lost to Damien Hobgood in the semifinals, 15.00-10.34, to earn $10,000. Hobgood went on to win the event, defeating Shaun Cansdell 15.40-10.50.
Mililani's Loo heads to Pan-Am boxing
Colleen Loo of Mililani and the rest of the USA Boxing women's team was scheduled to leave the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., today, heading for the Pan-American Tournament in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
It will be the first major international event for the 19-year-old Loo, who will compete in the pinweight (101-pound) division later this week.
