‘La Cage’ opens at DHT
HE'S THE MAID!: Twan Matthews, left, joined Richard Aadland, Randl Ask and Laurence Paxton as the cast of Diamond Head Theatre's production of "La Cage aux Folles" celebrated at Town in Kaimuki after opening night May 19. Ask and Paxton earned a standing ovation for their superb performances in the lead roles of Albin and Georges, Aadland distinguishes himself as the designated villain and Matthews does an outstanding job as Jacob, Albin's transvestite "maid," who finally earns the opportunity to become one of the "Les Cagelles" show girls.

SHAWNA'S BACK: Shawna Masuda celebrated at Town with Kainoa Goo. After a year playing lead roles and high-profile characters, Masuda is taking time off from acting to learn about backstage stuff. She's part of the stage crew for "La Cage."

YES, BOYS CAN SO DANCE: Brian Gustaveson, who plays one of the transvestite "Les Cagelles" showgirls, partied at Town with Maile Krienke, left, and Yvette M. Garrison. His pink T-shirt reads "Boys can't dance." Yes, he can!

READY FOR 'LA CAGE': DHT board member, Devon Guard, left, and her husband, Tim, welcomed Karen Chang to the sponsors' reception before the show. Tim is executive producer of the Beach Boys concert here on July 8.
WHILE LINDA'S AWAY: His wife, Linda Coble, was away on a business trip, but KHON news anchor Kirk Matthews was able to enjoy the pre-show sponsors' reception with Carole Kai, left, and Edgy Lee.
A RARE VISIT: DHT board member Dr. John Magauran, right, talked with Mike Cutter, left, his wife, Uli Cutter, Nick Cutter and his wife, Hae Na Cutter, in the sponsors' tent during intermission. Although Uli Cutter is on the DHT board, the rest of the family is rarely seen on opening night. One reason for this rare visit is that the Cutter Automotive Group is a Diamond sponsor of "La Cage."

'I COULD HAVE BEEN MY OWN LIAT': Tony Young played Joe Cable, and Maile Kreinke was Liat, when they worked together in Paliku Theatre's production of "South Pacific" last year. Young plays Chantal, an ambitious transvestite, in "La Cage" and says that if he had known as much about women's clothing a year ago as he does now, he could have "been my own Liat" in "South Pacific."
