Hoku jumps 23%
Hoku Scientific Inc. was the top-performing stock in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin stock index this week, climbing 23 percent to close at $5.45.
The fuel-cell technology developer's stock made all of its gains in the last two days of the week, after it announced that that the Navy had accepted two of 10 demonstration power plants.
Close behind Hoku in the index was Cyanotech Corp., which on Wednesday posted a fourth-quarter profit, compared to a loss the year before. Cyanotech was up more than 22 percent, closing at 70 cents.
The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
