Hayashi leads after first round of Kona Open

Kevin Hayashi shot a 5-under 67 yesterday to take a two-shot lead over Patrick Finigan and Matt Pakkala in the Kona Open.

Norman-Ganin Asao is another shot back after a 2-under 70.

Jacob Low, who is well off the pace, used a 6-iron to ace the Kona Country Club Mountain Course 8th hole, a 173-yard par-3. It was Low's third hole-in-one, but first in competition.

Clapp to speak at QB Club meeting tomorrow

Hawaii associate athletic director Carl Clapp will be a guest speaker at tomorrow's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

Kahuku athletic director Joe Whitford and Red Raiders track and field coach Sean Makaiao will also speak at the weekly luncheon, which starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda Hotel.

The public is invited.
