Satele on Rimington watch list
Hawaii senior Samson Satele is among 39 college football centers on the spring watch list for the 2006 Dave Rimington Trophy.
The 6-foot-3, 311-pound Satele is a three-year starter on the offensive line for the Warriors, but this will be his first season as the starting center.
The Kailua High School graduate was a first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection following the 2005 season in which he posted a team-high 32 knockdowns and allowed two sacks in 578 passing attempts.
Satele is also on the watch list for the Lombardi Award, which goes to the nation's top lineman or linebacker.
Horner qualifies for Open sectional
POIPU, Kauai » Eric Horner of Kekaha defeated Lihue's Ron Castillo Jr. on the first playoff hole at the Poipu Bay Golf Course yesterday to advance to the U.S. Open Championship sectional qualifier on June 5.
Horner and Castillo shot identical 2-over 74s to tie after regulation. On the first playoff hole. Castillo missed a 16-foot birdie putt with Horner curling in his birdie putt from 15-feet out to win.
Castillo is the first alternate and Lihue's Jonathan Ota, who had a 75 in regulation, is the second alternate.
The 36-hole sectional qualifier is scheduled for Poipu Bay. The U.S. Open will be held June 15-18 at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y.
Sing Chow named to DII region team
Hawaii-Hilo junior pitcher-designated player Leo Sing Chow has been selected to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II West Region second team.
Sing Chow led the Vulcans with a .365 batting average, with 27 RBIs. She also was 7-9 with a 2.67 ERA over 121.1 innings.
