Grants offered to improve downtown
The Hawaii Arts Alliance is soliciting public proposals
The Hawaii Arts Alliance is offering a maximum of 10 $4,000 awards for individuals to carry out their ideas for enhancing downtown Honolulu.
"We are empowering them (the public) to come up with something creative and unique and actually see it happen," Hawaii Arts Alliance communications director Marla Musick said.
One-page concept proposals are due June 30. Twenty applicants will be selected for a short oral presentation, and 10 will receive funding from the Ford Foundation to implement his or her proposal.
"There is no limit on the number of applications -- it's most important we get a whole range of ideas," Musick said.
Acceptable categories include youth, children, families, community identity, education, culture, arts, tourism, health, historic preservation, homelessness, housing, transportation, safety, beautification and recreation.
Send proposals to the ARTS at Marks Garage at 1159 Nuuanu Ave., Honolulu 96817. Direct questions to Rich Richardson at 203-9509.
