Only Barnwell rises
Barnwell Industries Inc. was the only company in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin stock index to eke out a gain this week, and even that wasn't much: Barnwell edged up only 0.46 percent to close at $23.23.
Year to date, Barnwell is off more than 7 percent, but over the last 12 months it is up nearly 5 percent.
Two other stocks in the index, Maui Land & Pineapple and Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc., finished the week unchanged.
Hardest hit this week was Hoku Scientific Inc., down more than 16 percent to close at $5.02.
The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
