Services set for Sakoda, killed in Iraq war
Services for Army Sgt. Steve M. Sakoda, who was killed by a roadside bomb in Baghdad April 29, will be held Friday and Saturday on the Big Island.
The Hilo native was a member of the 2nd Platoon, 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, based in Fort Campbell, Ky.
He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge.
He is survived by wife Michelle C., sister Stella Y.S. Hottendorf, grandmothers Jennie Sakoda and Kimiko Yuasa, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Dodo Mortuary, with visitation beginning at 5 p.m.
Committal services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.
